Licensed nurse practitioner Sandra Miceli is facing a steep $55,000 fine after it was discovered that she led a vaccination scheme that affected a total of 116 children. Miceli, who created false immunization records for a total of 546 vaccinations that never actually occurred, is now under investigation by the Department of Health.
The investigation revealed that Miceli has a history of promoting misinformation about vaccines and has been an outspoken opponent of immunization requirements. She reportedly spread dangerous public-health falsehoods through anti-vaccination propaganda on social media platforms.
The scheme began after New York state eliminated non-medical exemptions for required school immunizations in June 2019. As a result, the 116 children affected by Miceli’s scheme had their immunization records voided and must now be fully up to date before they can return to school or day care.
Miceli has already paid $30,000 of the fine, with the remainder suspended pending her full compliance with public health laws. In addition, she has been permanently excluded from the New York State Immunization Information System and is prohibited from administering any reportable immunizations.
When reached for comment by local news outlet 13WHAM, Miceli declined to speak and cited advice from her lawyer. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of spreading vaccine misinformation and the importance of upholding public health laws. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
