Apple has quietly discontinued production of its environmentally-friendly FineWoven iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands, according to reports from Twitter leaker Kosutami. Launched last fall as a sustainable alternative to leather accessories, FineWoven failed to live up to expectations due to issues with attracting dirt, scuffs, and overall durability.
Despite being priced the same as Apple’s premium leather lineup, FineWoven was criticized for feeling less luxurious. The company downplayed the rollout of FineWoven last week, instead choosing to focus on their environmental progress.
It is rumored that Apple may introduce a different leather alternative, such as Alcantara, to replace FineWoven. The production lines for FineWoven have been shut down, and Apple has confirmed that they will not be using leather as a replacement material.
Apple fans may have the chance to see the new replacement for FineWoven during the upcoming launch of the Apple Watch and iPhone 16 in September. The company appears to be moving on from FineWoven, aiming to provide customers with a higher quality, more durable, and premium alternative in the future. Stay tuned for more updates on Apple’s latest accessories.
