Rep. Justin Amash Votes For Pro-United Nations Resolution Urging Sanctions Against Iran

Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) voted in favor of a resolution urging crippling sanctions against the Iranian people while calling for the United Nations to play a role in toppling the Islamic Republic of Iran.

House Resolution 676 (H.Res.676) was approved by every House member except for Reps. Walter Jones (R-NC) and Thomas Massie (R-KY). Those legislators are frequent associates of Amash, who decided to stray from the liberty-minded Reps and vote with the war party on this resolution.

H.Res.676 “calls on all democratic governments and institutions to clearly support the Iranian people’s right to live in a free society” and “urges the Administration to use targeted sanctions and work to convene emergency sessions of the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations Human Rights Council to condemn the ongoing human rights violations perpetrated by the Iranian regime and establish a mechanism by which the Security Council can monitor such violations.”

Sanctions were described by former Texas Rep. Ron Paul as acts of war, but that didn’t stop Amash from voting in favor of the resolution.

Amash faced heat for his ‘no’ votes on border security measures including Kate’s Law and the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act last year. That move caused him to face heat from Trump-supporting constituents. With Amash turning his back on peace and non-intervention with his vote in favor of H.Res.676, he may be losing his liberty supporters too as primary season rapidly approaches.

  1. What about China’s 1 child policy – shouldn’t we have sanctions and an embargo there?
Or Saudi Arabia which is about as repressive as Iran if not worse.
