Kia Recalls Over 427,000 Telluride SUVs Due to Potential Rollaway Issue
Kia Motors is currently recalling more than 427,000 of its popular Telluride SUVs after discovering a defect that could cause the vehicles to roll away while parked. The recall affects 2020-2023 model year Tellurides, as well as select 2024 models that were manufactured between January 9, 2019, and October 19, 2023.
The issue stems from the intermediate shaft and right front driveshaft not being fully engaged, which can result in unintended vehicle movement while the car is in park. Despite the potential danger, no injuries or crashes have been reported thus far related to this problem.
To address the issue, Kia dealers will update the affected vehicles’ electronic parking brake software and replace any damaged intermediate shafts at no cost to owners. Those who have already paid for repairs related to this issue will also be reimbursed.
In the meantime, drivers of the impacted Tellurides are advised to manually engage the emergency brake before exiting the vehicle for added safety. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be sent out starting on May 15, with dealers being informed prior to that date.
As of now, Kia America has not provided any additional comments regarding the recall. It is important for owners of the affected Tellurides to follow the instructions provided by Kia to ensure the safety of themselves and others on the road.
