England’s John Alfred Tinniswood, World’s Oldest Person at 111
John Alfred Tinniswood, a great-grandfather from England, has officially been recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest person in the world at the age of 111. Tinniswood earned this prestigious title after the passing of the previous record holder, 114-year-old Juan Vicente Pérez.
Born in 1912, the same year the Titanic famously sank, Tinniswood currently resides in a retirement home in Southport, England. He spent his working years in the accounts department of oil and gas giants Shell and BP until his retirement in 1972.
Despite his incredible age, Tinniswood remains healthy by avoiding smoking and limiting his alcohol consumption. He attributes his longevity to luck, claiming he doesn’t follow any specific diet regimen except for enjoying fish and chips every Friday.
One key piece of advice Tinniswood offers to younger generations is to always give their best effort in everything they do. Additionally, he holds the distinction of being the oldest surviving male World War II veteran, having served his country during the historic conflict.
Tinniswood is a proud great-grandfather to four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Since turning 100 years old, he has received an annual birthday card from the late Queen Elizabeth, further cementing his status as a beloved figure in his community.
