Sony’s Chief Engineer Advocates for HDR Technology Revival
At a recent spring showcase event in March, Sony’s chief distinguished engineer, Toshiyuki Ogura, highlighted the importance of reintroducing HDR technology in their latest LED TV lineup. The event featured the unveiling of the flagship Bravia A9 mini LED TV and a range of new 2024 TVs, as well as an updated soundbar fleet and professional monitor, the HX3110.
Sony also took the opportunity to simplify its 2024 home theater lineup by using the A-series moniker for all new OLED and LED TVs. However, confusion arose among consumers as OLED and LED TVs were not clearly differentiated under the new naming system.
Despite the confusion, Sony revealed that they are moving away from outsourcing OLED panels and are focusing on producing brighter housemade LED and mini LED panels. The new mini LED TVs offer improvements in brightness and backlight control, with Sony emphasizing that their new backlights are not only brighter but also better at understanding content.
Overall, the showcase event highlighted Sony’s commitment to advancing TV technology and providing consumers with top-of-the-line home entertainment options. With their focus on HDR technology and innovative LED and mini LED panels, Sony continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of television.
