A New Humanitarian Lifeline Opens for Gaza Children
The success of a new maritime corridor for humanitarian aid was recently discussed, offering a glimmer of hope for the children in war-torn Gaza. World Central Kitchen (WCK) and Spanish NGO Open Arms joined forces to open the corridor, with support from the EU and Arab governments.
The founder of WCK, Josรฉ Andrรฉs, expressed the potential to bring thousands of tons of aid weekly through the corridor. Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides has also pledged to increase the volume of aid transfers to help those in need.
The first provisions to be distributed through the corridor will be sent to northern Gaza, where there is an acute child malnutrition crisis. The UNICEF Executive Director, Catherine Russell, expressed shock at the extent of the crisis, with reports of at least 23 children in northern Gaza dying from malnutrition and dehydration.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that up to 13,450 children have been killed by Israeli bombing, adding to the humanitarian catastrophe in the region. The new maritime corridor offers a glimmer of hope for the children of Gaza, providing much-needed aid to those who are suffering the most.
