Four officers were tragically killed in a shooting incident in Charlotte, North Carolina while attempting to serve a warrant. The incident resulted in a total of eight law enforcement officers being shot, with three officers from the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force losing their lives.
The shooting took place as officers were serving a warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Among the fallen officers were Sam Poloche and Alden Elliot, who worked for the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. Additionally, four Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers were also shot, with one officer succumbing to his injuries.
Two individuals are currently being questioned by police as “people of interest” in connection with the shooting. President Joe Biden has paid tribute to the officers involved, referring to them as “heroes” and expressing his condolences for their untimely deaths.
North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has traveled to Charlotte to receive briefings on the situation and offer support. The US Marshals Service has also expressed deep sadness over the incident, mourning the loss of their Deputy and Task Force Officers.
