Speculation has been mounting with less than a week remaining before the deadline for the final Warren Commission pages to be released. The public has been eagerly awaiting and there has been bipartisan support for the declassification. But the President had yet to offer any public indication as to whether he would allow the documents to be released.

Roger Stone had previously claimed that according to his sources, the Central Intelligence Agency was attempting to persuade him not to release the documents.

President Trump has made his decision however. He made his announcement this morning with a Tweet:

Subject to the receipt of further information, I will be allowing, as President, the long blocked and classified JFK FILES to be opened.

This leaves the National Archives with a maximum of five days to prepare for the final release of thousands of currently declassified pages of information. After the Warren Commission concluded its original investigation, a good portion of the report was classified to protect names and other sensitive information uncovered.

Over time, certain parts of been declassified. In 1992, a law was passed mandating the complete release by October 26, 2017. The President of the United States is the only one who can intervene and block this release.

Opposition by the CIA is unsurprising given recently releases by the National Archives have shown there was a significant intelligence failure. Not only was there a failure to pursue leads regarding foreign influence, but the CIA chief at the time was filtering information to the Warren Commission to protect the narrative that Lee Harvey Oswalt acted alone.

This release undoubtedly will reshape the history books in some way. What remains to be seen is whether it will add details or completely rewrite what we know about the tragic assassination of former President John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

  1. I have a hard time understanding why these documents were classified and hid from the people in the first place. It only leads one to think our own government was involved in murdering JFK and certain people needed protection from paying for their crime!

  2. Should of never been denied to the public in the first place. I am sure anything that implicates the true perps have been long destroyed. 911 also needs the light of day but again..just like JFK..we got a bogus official story that couldn’t possibly have happened like they told us.
