The late Russian opposition leader, Alexey Navalny, will be sharing his final thoughts and experiences with the world through his posthumous memoir titled “Patriot,” set to be published this fall in multiple languages, including Russian.
Navalny’s wife, Yulia Navalnaya, took to social media to announce the release date of the book, revealing that her late husband had started writing his autobiography in 2020, shortly after surviving a near-fatal poisoning with the nerve agent Novichok. His spokesperson, Kira Yarmysh, assisted him with the book while he was receiving medical treatment in Germany.
Publishing giants Penguin Random House and Alfred A Knopf will be distributing the memoir in the UK and US, respectively. The book is said to be a call to action, urging readers to continue Navalny’s fight for democracy and freedom in Russia.
Navalny, a former lawyer turned anti-corruption activist, gained international recognition as one of President Vladimir Putin’s most vocal critics. He tragically passed away on February 16 at the age of 47 while serving time in a Siberian prison, with his widow holding Putin responsible for his death.
Despite the Kremlin’s denials of any involvement in Navalny’s poisoning and subsequent death, Yulia Navalnaya has vowed to carry on her husband’s legacy and continue advocating for a more democratic and transparent Russia. With the release of “Patriot,” Navalny’s powerful message is set to inspire readers around the world to join the ongoing fight for justice and reform in the country.
