In a recent escalation of violence in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza, the Israeli military claims to have killed 90 gunmen and arrested 160 others in an attack on Al Shifa hospital, Gaza’s largest medical facility. The raid, which began on Monday night, resulted in the deaths of two Israeli soldiers.
The Israeli military stated that they had received intelligence indicating that Hamas fighters were hiding inside the hospital. They claimed to have located weapons in the hospital area and were met with sniper fire from inside the building during the operation. Hamas, however, denies that their fighters were using the hospital as a base.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization condemned the gunfight at Al Shifa hospital, emphasizing that hospitals should never be used as battlegrounds. Ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas have stalled, with negotiations focusing on a potential deal for the release of hostages.
Despite the violence, international efforts to provide aid to Gaza have continued. Israel announced the entry of humanitarian aid trucks into Gaza, and other countries have offered assistance through various means. The Gaza Ministry of Health reported a staggering death toll of 31,923 and 74,096 injured in the region.
Hamas and medical staff maintain that the hospital is not being used for military purposes or to shelter fighters. The situation remains tense as both sides continue to clash, leaving the civilians caught in the middle struggling to survive amidst the chaos.
