The Las Vegas Aces are on the verge of securing back-to-back WNBA championships after an impressive victory over the New York Liberty in Game 2 of the Finals. The Aces dominated the game, defeating the Liberty 104-76 in a blowout victory.
Led by A’ja Wilson, the Aces showcased their dominance on the court. Wilson played a pivotal role in the team’s success, contributing 26 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal. Her outstanding performance earned her MVP chants from the crowd as the Aces neared their second consecutive win over the Liberty.
If the Aces manage to clinch the championship title, they will become the first team since the Los Angeles Sparks in 2001 and 2002 to win back-to-back WNBA titles. However, the Liberty are not giving up without a fight. They are determined to secure their franchise’s first ever WNBA championship. Nevertheless, they face an uphill battle as no team has ever come back from an 0-2 deficit in a best-of-five Finals series in WNBA history.
The Aces got off to a historic start in Game 2, launching a 19-2 run in the opening stages of the game. Their exceptional performance continued throughout the game as they outplayed, outhustled, and displayed more physicality than the Liberty. Although Jonquel Jones provided some relief for the Liberty with a strong second-quarter comeback, it wasn’t enough to withstand the Aces’ offensive onslaught.
Chelsea Gray also played a crucial role in the Aces’ victory, contributing 14 points, 11 assists, and a steal.
The Aces showcased their shooting prowess, with a team shooting percentage of 52.9% from the field and an impressive 44.8% from three-point range. On the other hand, apart from Jones, the Liberty’s starters struggled immensely, shooting only 36.1% from the field and a dismal 22.9% from beyond the arc.
The series will now move to New York for Game 3, which will take place on Sunday at Barclays Center. As the Aces inch closer to their championship dreams, the Liberty have a monumental task ahead of them as they aim to make a historic comeback in this best-of-five series.
